The Japan Trip

27th April-15th May 2004

Introduction

Irasshai (Welcome)!

This is my journal of an 18-day holiday in Japan, starting on the 27th April 2004. As those who know me will appreciate, Japan is one of the places that I have always wanted to visit, so the opportunity was one not to be missed. My travelling companions were Mr. Paul Mortier and Ms. Emma Bushell, and together we aimed to take in the many sights Japan has to offer, challenging popular stereotypes, tackling common misconceptions, and cracking open cultural myths along the way.

Or failing that, cracking open a decent beer at least!

Japan has a massively rich and eventful history- but it would be a bit tedious to regale you with all that here, and so I will not bore you with historical details. To be honest I'd just be copying it out of a book anyway. These are purely my notes about the things that we experienced, and some of the cultural oddities that we encountered (of which there were plenty).

Note: The author reserves the right to exaggerate situations that were not particularly exciting or funny at the time.
